Goodbye Buddy Boy

Hi, this is Kevin.  I rarely post on here but wanted to take some time to share some news about our Buddy Boy, Jack.  We had to have Jack put to sleep on Saturday.

Our Buddy Boy had recently gotten sick.  It all happened so quickly.  Over the last month, a gradual decline in his condition was noted.  He didn't seem to be his same old self.  He was even letting Anna pet him (he usually steers clear of the wild woman).  On Friday night, Emily noticed he was breathing very heavily and he seemed to have trouble doing so, laboring for a breath.  This continued into Saturday.  We decided to take him to the vet that afternoon.  I got a call from Emily while she was on her way back from the vet.  It turns out Jack had developed cancer.  We couldn't believe it.  We knew something was wrong but never expected such bad news.  The doctor informed Emily that Jack would need to be put down.  Prolonging his life would seem cruel.  The vet said he was not in pain but we could tell Jack was near the end.

Emily brought Jack home from the vet and we took turns saying goodbye and sharing moments with him.  I tried to take Jack for a short walk down to the corner but he just couldn't do it. Neither one of us could take Jack to the vet.  Emily's Dad, Joe, took him for us.  He needed to say goodbye to Jack as well.

Jack was a great friend and a part of our family.  He will be sorely missed. Our house is a little more empty and a lot less fun without him.

So here's a tribute to Jack:

He was always quick with a smile.

He loved the snow.

He did not like Fireworks. Every fourth of July was a nightmare for him. He would often take refuge in the shower.

He would always be willing to do a trick for a carrot, his favorite treat.

Most of all, he would love to chase after a ball, any ball. He often got there quick and would come back and wait for the next ball to be thrown.

Very sorry to hear about Jack. I just saw him a week or so ago at Joe's and he seemed fine. He was such a nice dog.

I am very sorry to hear about Jack. I know how very hard it is to lose a pet. It is truly like losing a part of your family.

Again, I'm so sorry to hear about Jack. He was a loved, adored and very well taken care of pup.

He was so lucky to have you guys as his family. I'll miss him, too.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Dogs become such a part of our lives. Jack was a character, and a beautiful dog.Ithink he's probably running at Virginia Power right now. Kevin your tribute was touching and captured him so well.

Gosh, this is the saddest post! I'm so sorry about Jack. Pets definitely become our family members.
